PA GOP: Did Chris Carney Trade Vote On Health Care To Advance His Own Political Career?

HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Spokesman Mike Barley released the following statement after learning that Congressman Chris Carney has decided to support President Barack Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s government-run health care plan amid rumors he traded his vote for position on House Appropriations Committee.

“Today, Chris Carney’s message to his constituents was loud and clear – I care more about my own career than I do about what is doing right for my constituents. When push came to shove, Congressman Carney has once again chosen to appease the wishes of President Obama and Speaker Pelosi over the needs of his constituents. Congressman Carney acts like he cares about his constituents when he is in the 10th Congressional District, but once he gets near the Potomac, his eyes are set on advancing his own career, even at the expense of his own constituents.

“The fact that Carney has chosen to endorse the backroom dealings of Speaker Pelosi by supporting this terrible government-run health care plan once again highlights the Washington, D.C. problem our country is facing.  This is an awful piece of legislation that will raise taxes, kill jobs and drive a government-sized wedge between patients and their doctors.

“At a time when voters have watched as Democratic leaders have engaged in the open bribery of the ‘Louisiana Purchase’ and the ‘Nebraska Compromise,’ my only question for Chris Carney is: how did they ‘secure’ your vote, Congressman?”
