PA GOP: ObamaCare Decision Time: Will Congressman Carney Choose President Obama Over His Constituents?

HARRISBURG – As President Barack Obama heads to the Keystone State to make his latest government-run health care pitch, Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason is calling on Congressman Chris Carney to stand up and voice his strong opposition to a plan that no one wants.

“Congressman Chris Carney needs to realize that he can’t have it both ways when it comes to government-run health care,” Gleason said. “When he’s in his District, Congressman Carney loves to portray himself as a fiscal conservative, but what fiscal conservative could so openly support and defend a government-run health care plan that kills jobs, raises taxes and places an incredible burden on the small businesses and families who are struggling just to make ends’ meet?

“The truth of the matter is that while Congressman Chris Carney may try to portray himself as a Blue Dog Democrat, his continued support of government-run health care exposes his true liberal leanings and reminds us that he continues to vote for Nancy Pelosi to be Speaker of the House.

“The people of the 10th Congressional District deserve a thoughtful, step-by-step approach to improving our health care system that focuses on controlling costs while making it easier to gain and maintain health care coverage after switching jobs, locations, or marital status.

“When it comes to government-run health care, it’s time for Congressman Carney to decide whether he stands with his constituents or President Barack Obama.”

During a late Saturday night vote on November 7, 2009, Congresswoman Chris Carney cast his vote for the U.S. House’s version of the government-run health care plan. (“Affordable Health Care for America Act: Roll Call 887,” http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2009/roll887.xml)
