Jim Cawley: “Onorato should spend more time in Bucks County to learn how to run Government”

Doylestown, PA -  Bucks County Commissioner and endorsed Republican candidate for Lt. Governor, Jim Cawley released the following statement regarding Dan Onorato’s recent visit to Bucks County.

“I was pleased to learn that Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato recently spent some time in Bucks County.  I wasn’t alone, as Pennsylvanians living in Allegheny County were also happy to hear that Onorato was out of their county again, because that means he was not raising their taxes to pay for his failed agenda.

“In a recent interview, Onorato claims to have lowered taxes in Allegheny County.  The facts tell a different story.  In order to balance his bloated budget, Dan Onorato instituted a 10% drink tax on the people of Allegheny County.

“What’s next – a tax on Terrible Towels?

“Perhaps the next time Dan is in Bucks County he can find time to stop by our courthouse and we can show him how to run a responsible county government – one that does not raise taxes, cut services and holds the line on spending.    The first step is saying is saying ‘No’…No to new taxes and no to wasteful spending.

“You don’t have to my word for it.  Just look at what his hometown newspaper said about him.”

‘The real Dan Onorato has used and abused the legal system and taxpayer dollars to impose new taxes and thwart real property tax reform. The accountant and lawyer either doesn’t understand or purposely misrepresents the health of the county pension fund. His fiscal policies continue to eat the county’s seed corn and spend millions more than it’s taking in.’  Pittsburgh Tribune Review April 15, 2010.

Background: Under the leadership of Jim Cawley, Bucks County has not had a tax increase for four years running, the county’s bond rating has improved and county services have been improved.
