PA GOP: Specter Says RAISE TAXES

HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason was not surprised to learn that U.S. Senator Arlen Specter has called for a ‘re-evaluation of taxing’ considering the high price tag of the initiatives included in the Obama-Pelosi ‘tax-and-spend’ agenda.

“Want more proof that Arlen Specter doesn’t deserve re-election to the United States Senate, just wait for him to open his mouth,” Gleason said.  “His call for higher taxes at a time when most families are struggling to make ends meet hardly passes the smell test.  Given Specter’s ability to take multiple sides of the same issue, it is fair to question whether or not he even knows where he stands.

“The fact of the matter is that Arlen Specter decided to single-handedly ‘re-evaluate’ our taxes when he decided to throw his support behind the Obama-Pelosi agenda that included legislation with trillion dollar price tags.

“Specter’s latest comments draw an even greater contrast between himself and Pat Toomey. In Pat Toomey, Pennsylvanians have a chance to elect a Senator who understands that our government should be smaller and more fiscally responsible. While Arlen Specter is eager to ‘re-evaluate’ our taxes, the people of Pennsylvania are eager to ‘re-evaluate’ his job performance.”

While making a television appearance on Philadelphia’s Fox 29 earlier today, Senator Arlen Specter stated that he “think[s] we’re going to have a re-evaluation of taxing.” (“Specter Arlen Specter Sestak Debate,” Fox 29, 5/3/10)
