HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Spokesman Mike Barley released the following statement regarding comments made by Congressman Paul Kanjorski’s on WILK FM’s Steve Corbett Show this afternoon:
“Congressman Paul Kanjorski proved yet again that he has zero respect for people living in Northeast PA. As a sitting Congressman, it is deplorable that he thinks so little of his constituents that he is concerned he may ‘blow a half a day or a full day’ having a town hall meeting to hear their concerns or thoughts. He also complained that they require ‘a lot of effort.’ I think most hardworking Pennsylvanians would agree that if he is unwilling to put in the hard work it takes to be a congressman, then he should step aside today!”
Kanjorski also did little to clear up whether or not he would have public town hall meetings, expressing concerns that they may not be well attended.
Barley continued, “If Congressman Kanjorski holds a town hall meeting, I can guarantee that it will be very well attended by constituents who are concerned about his support of the Nancy Pelosi agenda of higher taxes, out-of-control spending and policies like government-run health care.
“Congressman Kanjorski is afraid of town hall meetings. He doesn’t want to be held accountable for his record. He understands that he will certainly get tough questions and unlike the telephone interview he conducted on the airwaves today, he will not be able to rely on his staff to pass him the answers.”
This afternoon on WILK-FM’s Steve Corbett Show, Congressman Paul Kanjorski yet again showed his contempt for town hall meetings and the opportunity to meet with his constituents. He also waffled on whether or not he would actually conduct town hall meetings this summer.
