HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Spokesman Mike Barley released the following statement regarding 10th District Democrat Congressman Chris Carney’s $1,000-a-plate fundraiser in Washington, D.C.
“In Chris Carney’s mind, Washington D.C. simply matters more than the hardworking people of his district,” Barley said. “At a time when northeastern Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate is the highest in the Commonwealth, Chris Carney would choose to pad his campaign coffers rather than answer questions about why he supports the largest tax increase in our nation’s history.
“It’s not surprising that Chris Carney would rather be hob-knobbing with Washington D.C. liberals than discussing why he votes with Nancy Pelosi 91% of the time. Chris Carney is the same man who sided with Washington D.C. over northeastern Pennsylvania by voting for government-run health care and a nearly $1 trillion stimulus package that has kept northeastern Pennsylvanian’s out of work and put our country further in debt.
“Hopefully, Chris Carney is making some great contacts with the D.C. crowd now, because on November 2nd, he’ll be the one that’s out of a job. And thanks to him, they aren’t hiring in northeast Pennsylvania.”
An October 28th, 2008 article in The Sunbury Daily Item reports that “Carney opposed extending Bush’s tax cuts of 2001 and 2003.”(Coulter Jones, “Carney vs. Hackett: Their View On The Economy,” Sunbury Daily Item, 10/28/08)
