PA GOP: If Dan Onorato Can’t Help Allegheny County With Property Taxes, How Can He Help Pennsylvania?

HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement after learning  that Allegheny County has the highest property tax burden in southwestern Pennsylvania under the “leadership” of Democrat gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato.

“If Pennsylvanians want a glimpse into their futures if Dan Onorato is elected governor, all they have to do is look at Allegheny County’s astronomical property taxes,” Gleason said. “Allegheny County has one of the largest property tax burdens in America, and Dan Onorato’s only answer is to pile on the burden with even more taxes in order to pay for what  even his spokesperson has deemed ‘a lot of government.’

“Pennsylvanians have already given Dan Onorato a chance to lead, and the only thank you they’ve received is higher taxes to pay for his big government agenda. We can’t afford to have another 8 years of Rendell-like policies on a statewide level, and that’s why we simply can’t afford Dan Onorato.”

According to a report in today’s Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Allegheny County’s property tax burden “is among the heaviest in the nation when factoring in home values.” The same article also quotes Allegheny County spokeswoman Megan Dardnell as explaining, “We have a lot of government.”(Tom Fontaine, “Local Property Taxes Among Highest In U.S.,” Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, 9/30/10,http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/pittsburgh/s_701992.html)
