PA GOP: DCCC Waving The White Flag In PA-3? Pull TV Ads As Dahlkemper Continues To Sink

HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement regarding news that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is pulling television advertisements on behalf of Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper and her struggling re-election campaign.

“I guess even the DCCC agrees that Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper’s blind support of the extreme, liberal Nancy Pelosi agenda has made her unelectable in the 3rd Congressional District,” Gleason said.  “With so many contested races and so many seats to defend, I can hardly blame the Democrats for pulling out of this race.  The people of the 3rd Congressional District are looking for new leadership in Washington, D.C. that will promote their values, not the agenda of a Speaker of the House from San Francisco.  The fact is that Kathy Dahlkemper votes with Nancy Pelosi 94% of the time – that means its time to go.”

“There is no doubt that Mike Kelly is in a great position to win this race.  However, make no mistake about it, despite this news, we need to continue working hard.  We understand that the only poll that matters is conducted on November 2nd, 2010 when voters from the 3rdCongressional District will make their voices heard.  Remember, we aren’t just looking to win this race, we are looking to send a message on Election Day that we must stop the spending, cut taxes and restore fiscal responsibility to our government!”

Today, The New York Times reported that the Democrats were cutting television advertisements in Pennsylvania’s 3rd District as they look to divert funds to protect seats where they still feel incumbent Democrats are competitive.

Representatives Steve Driehaus of Ohio, Suzanne M. Kosmas of Florida and Kathy Dahlkemper of Pennsylvania were among the Democrats who learned that they would no longer receive the same infusion of television advertising that party leaders had promised. Party strategists conceded that these races and several others were slipping out of reach. (Zeleny, Jeff, “G.O.P. Widens Targets for Picking Up House Seats,” The New York Times, 10/12/10)
