HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement regarding news that Joe Sestak was once again campaigning with former President Bill Clinton.

“It’s time to set the record straight. Will Joe Sestak or Bill Clinton reveal the true story about what happened with the White House job scandal?,” Gleason said. “It’s been nearly a year since Joe Sestak first accused the White House of bribery, and more than five months since Joe Sestak singled out Bill Clinton as the person who tried to get him out of the race, a charge that President Clinton adamantly denied in August.

“Someone’s telling the truth. Someone is lying. Why would Joe Sestak feel the need to change his story so many times instead of just telling the truth once and for all?If Joe Sestak can’t tell the truth about the White House’s attempts to bribe him, how can we trust him to be honest with us as a U.S. Senator?

“The fact of the matter is that Joe Sestak has proven  through his actions in Job-gate that he simply can’t be trusted to be honest with Pennsylvania voters, and no amount of campaign appearances with Bill Clinton is going to change that.”

In August, WBRE-TV  that former President Bill Clinton is denying that he had any involvement in attempting to bribe Joe Sestak out of the U.S. Senate race.

“Clinton denied it to EyeWitness news, saying he never tried to get Sestak out of the race and  has never been accused of it.” (WBRE-TV, 8/10/10)

In an interview from May 28th, 2010, Joe Sestak said that Bill Clinton played a key role in ‘Job-gate.’

Last summer, I received a phone call from President Clinton. During the course of the conversation, he expressed concern over my prospects if I were to enter the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate and the value of having me stay in the House of Representatives because of my military background. He said that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had spoken with him about my being on a Presidential Board while remaining in the House of Representatives. In a Feburary 18th, 2010 taping of The Comcast Network’s Larry Kane: Voice of Reason, Congressman Joe Sestak admitted that he had been offered a job by the White House in exchange for getting out of the U.S. Senate race. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vW4d2NWJ9A)
