Welcome to Washington politics, Mr. Kelly.
Mike Kelly, the Republican car dealer and former Notre Dame University football player from Butler who promises to bring a businessman’s approach to D.C. politics, knocked off freshman Democratic U.S. Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper, of Erie, in Tuesday’s election.
According to unofficial vote totals from the Pennsylvania Department of State, with 98 percent of the votes counted districtwide, Kelly received 102,601 votes to Dahlkemper’s 82,125 votes.
Kelly’s win — which the candidate celebrated with friends, family and political supporters during a Tuesday-night victory party at the Grand Ballroom at the Cornerstone Commons in downtown Butler — denied Dahlkemper a second two-year term in Congress.
