State House Republicans Propose To Trim Perks, Ban State Fleet Cars

Republican House members who will control the chamber in January have come to a consensus to give up state fleet cars, pay toward their own health care benefits, and curb per diem abuses, lawmakers said today.It’s a move to work with incoming Gov.-elect Tom Corbett, the Shaler Republican who campaigned to rein in lawmakers’ perks. Corbett called for reducing the car fleet and establishing more accountability for per diems, the flat undocumented payments for lawmakers’ overnight stays. The current per-diem rate for Harrisburg trips is $157.
