Folmer’s vehicle law passes

A bill championed by Sen. Mike Folmer for several years unanimously passed the state Senate this week.

Senate Bill 104 requiring the state’s fleet of 16,000 vehicles to have “official use” license plates was passed by a 50-0 vote on Tuesday. It now moves to the state House of Representatives.

The law does not apply to vehicles used by undercover law enforcement or elected officials, for security concerns.

The bill also requires state employees and contractors who use a state-owned vehicle or their own vehicle on state business to keep detailed mileage logs, which will be reported quarterly by their respective departments.

In addition, a list of vehicles in the state motor pool issued to state employees will be available on the Department of General Services website, dgs.state.pa.us. The information is to include the names of the employees the vehicles are issued to and the agency for which they work, as well as the make, model and year of the vehicle.
