It looks like the RNC and PAGOP should have waited an extra day to roll outtheir latest attack on President Obama. The June jobs numbers came out this morning, and they portend bad news for incumbents everywhere – especially the President and members of his party.

Only 18,000 jobs were added last month according to the Department of Labor, well below numbers forecast. Unemployment rose from 9.1 to 9.2 percent.

We’re sure every PA Republican will want to add his or her two cents on the subject, but Rep. Pat Meehan (R-Delaware) has the distinction of being the first elected official to send us a press release. He cut right to the chase, blasting Obama and the Democratically-controlled U.S. Senate.

“I am again disappointed in today’s report showing that hiring has remained stalled. It is clear that this Administration’s policies are not working. Unemployment has remained above 8 percent for 29 consecutive months, which is the longest period since the Great Depression.

“Working together with my colleagues in the House of Representatives we have passed nine separate bills to grow our economy and create millions of jobs.  Yet the Senate has not considered a single one. With 14.1 million Americans unemployed – that is unacceptable.”

As this article was being written, we also received a statement from Sen. Bob Casey. He reiterated his emphasis on small business.

“The June jobs numbers should serve as a reminder to those in Washington of the need to focus on job creation. Now more than ever, we need to pursue smart policies like the small business job creation tax credit that I introduced earlier this week that will put people back to work and get our economy moving again.”
