Platts co-sponsors pro-manufacturing legislation

The legislation would improve the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s emission limits for boilers.

York, PA - U.S. Rep. Todd Platts, R-York County, has co-sponsored legislation to improve an existing regulation that sets emission limits for boilers used in industrial, commercial and institutional facilities.The current regulation, issued in Feb. 2011, costs manufacturers an estimated $14 billion in capital expenses, plus more in operating costs, according to the American Forest and Paper Association, a national trade association.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued a stay of the Boiler MACT while changes are considered.

House Bill 2250, the legislation supported by Platts, guarantees the stay can’t be overturned in court, threatening companies with high compliance costs and job loss, the association said.
