Insider Update – August 15, 2011

Another ObamaCare Defeat

Last week, Republicans scored a big victory in the effort to repeal ObamaCare, the job-crushing government takeover of our healthcare system.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that ObamaCare’s individual mandate, one of the pillars of the law, is unconstitutional, calling it, “an unprecedented exercise of congressional power.” This is a huge win for advocates of consumer choice and healthcare freedom, and brings us one step closer to repealing the law and holding those who supported it (including our own U.S. Senator Bob Casey) accountable at the polls. The Republican Party of Pennsylvania will continue to keep you posted as new developments in these efforts arise.

We knew that ObamaCare was a bad idea from the start, but now we have yet another court confirming the law’s unconstitutionality. This case highlights why it’s critically important to elect conservative judges to all levels of the judiciary who will enforce the law, and not legislate from the bench.

In Pennsylvania this year, we have an opportunity to send two such candidates to our statewide appellate courts Vic Stabile for Superior Court and Anne Covey for Commonwealth Court. You can learn more about Vic and Anne by visiting our website.

Pennsylvania’s More Jobs Governor

In other news, Governor Corbett has continued to remain hard at work getting Pennsylvania’s economy back on track. While other states have felt the blows of the Obama Administration’s failed economic policies, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate has remained below the national average, thanks to our Governor’s job-friendly policies.

Most recently, in an effort to boost Pennsylvania tourism, Governor Corbett embarked on a three-day kayak trip through Wyoming and Luzerne Counties last week.

Super Senator Toomey

Last but not least, our very own U.S. Senator Pat Toomey was appointed by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell to the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction, the special bipartisan “super committee” formed in light of the recent debt deal that will find another $1.5 trillion to cut from the federal budget.  This is a significant honor for our first-term Senator as the Republican Senate leadership recognized his strong financial credentials. I for one am excited and proud that Senator Toomey has been tapped to help solve our nation’s fiscal crisis.

And where has Bob Casey been in the past few years to get our nation’s fiscal house in order? Rubber stamping President Obama’s agenda and voting for ObamaCare.
