HARRISBURG — Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement in response to the defeat of President Obama’s “stimulus 2.0” in the Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate.
“Bob Casey just can’t seem to kick his addiction to spending. Senator Casey promised that President Obama’s first stimulus would fix our roads and bring new jobs to our Commonwealth. Today, Pennsylvanians understand better than anyone that they were wrong. Whether through their endless campaigning or stimulus spending, one thing is clear: President Obama and Bob Casey are more concerned about saving their own jobs than creating for the over 500,000 Pennsylvanians who don’t have one,” Chairman Rob Gleason said.
“The bipartisan rejection of the Obama-Casey Stimulus 2.0 should send a clear signal that the failed deficit spending policies of the past will not get America working again. President Obama and Senator Casey need to step off the campaign trail and have to start working with Republicans like Senator Pat Toomey to reform our tax code and remove government barriers which stand in the way of private-sector job growth.”
Senate blocks Obama’s $447 billion Stimulus 2.0
President Obama received a slap from members of his own party Tuesday as the Senate voted to block his $447 billion jobs package.
The jobs plan, which the president has spent much of the last month touting on a cross-country tour, fell well short of the 60 votes it needed to proceed.
