Gov. Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania lawmakers establish panel to study state’s child abuse laws

Patriot News

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Lawyers and experts in child abuse are among the people named to a new panel that’s been established to study Pennsylvania’s child abuse laws and propose potential changes.

Legislative leaders and Gov. Tom Corbett on Tuesday announced members of the Task Force on Child Protection, which has until the end of November to issue its findings and recommendations.

The chairman is Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler, a former state legislator and former county judge.

Other members include a children’s hospital physician, a social worker, a prosecutor and the chief executive of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape.

The task force is a response to the child sex abuse scandal for which former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky is charged with sexual abuse of 10 boys over a 15-year period.
