Governors of 12 States Officially Proclaim Jan. 22 – 28 National School Choice Week

DENVER, Jan. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The governors of 12 states have signed proclamations officially recognizing January 22nd through 28th as National School Choice Week, organizers of the week announced today.

The following governors have issued proclamations in support of the week:

  • Gov. Robert Bentley of Alabama
  • Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado
  • Gov. Nathan Deal of Georgia
  • Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana
  • Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana
  • Gov. Paul LePage of Maine
  • Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan
  • Gov. Mary Fallin of Oklahoma
  • Gov. Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania
  • Gov. Gary Herbert of Utah
  • Gov. Robert McDonnell of Virginia
  • Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin

Additionally, Mayor Michael Hancock of Denver, Colorado and Mayor Jim Reynolds of Eagle, Idaho have signed proclamations recognizing the week.

Organizers said they expected governors of at least five additional states and other cities to sign proclamations by the end of National School Choice Week.

National School Choice Week – a series of hundreds of events shining a spotlight on the need for better educational options for children, will kick off at a special event in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 21, 2012. Over the following seven days more than 340 events will take place in every corner of the nation. Everyone from children, parents, teachers, and community leaders – to celebrities, sports figures, elected officials, and more – will participate in this unprecedented bipartisan commemoration.
