HARRISBURG — Republican Party of Pennsylvania Communications Director Megan Sweeney released the following statement regarding news that the Campaign Legal Center, Common Cause, and the Sunlight Foundation have filed two complaints with the Federal Communication Commission regarding ads funded by top Tom Wolf supporter, billionaire Tom Steyer.
“Tom Wolf has sat back and allowed a shady billionaire backer to spew lies for weeks and it is time to come clean,” Sweeney said. “With these new allegations of illegal campaign finance violations, Tom Wolf has another opportunity to call on the shadow campaigns to stop. Tom Wolf should be running on his promises to raise taxes, strip Pennsylvanians of their health insurance and his failed business record of taking millions out of his company and moving it to Delaware. If he was being honest with Pennsylvanians, he would put that agenda in front of the voter rather than hiding behind this group awaiting investigation.”
“Tom Wolf is a multimillionaire who shouldn’t need a billionaire bailout who may have seriously comprised an election in Virginia. Remember it was Tom Wolf who broke his own campaign pledge by 200,000% when he bought the Democrat primary.
“By not acting immediately, Tom Wolf proved he would rather stand on the sidelines than fight for what’s right. If Tom Wolf won’t speak out against the lies about Governor Corbett’s record on education and denounce a shady backer who is pouring millions into the campaign, how could we expect him to stand up for what’s right as Governor?”
Today, the Campaign Legal Center, Common Cause, and the Sunlight Foundation have filed two complaints with the Federal Communication Commission regarding television advertisements from Tom Steyer-funded PAC NextGen Climate that ran during the Virginia gubernatorial race. The complaint, notes how Steyer was completely funding NextGen Climate at the time while accusing television stations of not properly identifying the true sponsor of the Steyer-funded ads.
