Republicans Win 37th State Senate District Special Election, Hold Overwhelming Majority Of County Courthouses

HARRISBURG — Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement regarding tonight’s election results.

“Congratulations to Senator-elect Guy Reschenthaler on his earning his victory tonight,” Gleason said. “Tonight, voters in Washington and Allegheny Counties soundly rejected the high tax policies of Governor Tom Wolf and the Democrats. After months of blocking critical funds from going to our schools and social services, perhaps tonight’s loss in Southwestern Pennsylvania will serve as the wake-up call Governor Wolf needs to step off of the campaign trail and head to the budget negotiating table with Republicans.

“I want to congratulate all of our county and local Republican candidates who are celebrating victories tonight. As we build an infrastructure for winning campaigns for 2016 it will be these Commissioners, row officers and local elected officials who will represent the backbone of the Republican Party. Our grassroots network of Republican volunteers has ensured that Republicans control the overwhelming majority of courthouses in Pennsylvania, and I thank them for their hard work and dedication.

“I would like to commend all of our statewide candidates for running hard-fought campaigns for their respective races. Each of our candidates spent months traveling across Pennsylvania to share their message of fairness, honesty and integrity with the voters, and our Commonwealth is better for their efforts.

“Now, we turn our immediate focus to the critical races of the 2016 election cycle, where scandal-plagued Democrats at both the national and state levels will be held accountable in the Keystone State.”
