PA GOP Statement On Pennsylvania’s Tax Freedom Day

HARRISBURG – PA GOP Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement on Pennsylvania’s Tax Freedom Day, the day when Pennsylvanians have collectively earned enough money to pay this year’s federal, state and local taxes.

“Today, Pennsylvanians finally begin to work for themselves and not the government,” PA GOP Chairman Rob Gleason said.  “It is terrible that because of the far-left policies of Democrats in Washington and Harrisburg, Pennsylvanians have spent the past 112 days working just to cover the costs of our rapidly growing government.

“In Washington, Senator Pat Toomey is working hard to move this day closer to the start of the year, while Democrats like Katie McGinty and Joe Sestak are promising to move this day further and further into the year by supporting  the new taxes contained in Obamacare.

“Here in the Commonwealth, Republicans in the State Senate and State House have spent the past year standing up for taxpayers against the proposed Wolf-McGinty tax hikes on everything from diapers and day care to nursing home care and caskets.

“Pennsylvanians should not have to spend a third of their year working just to foot the bill for the Democrats’ big government policies. Republicans in Washington and Harrisburg will continue to stand up for Pennsylvania’s working class families in the face of tax-and-spend government liberals.”

In Washington, Obamacare Contains 20 New Or Higher Taxes…

“Obamacare contains 20 new or higher taxes on American families and small businesses.” (Americans for Tax Reform ,”Full List of Obamacare Tax Hikes: Listed by Size of Tax Hike,” Office of Congressman Jeff Duncan, Accessed 3/22/2016)

Joe Sestak Voted For Obamacare

Sestak Voted For The Final Version Of Obamacare Five years ago today, Sestak Voted For H.R. 3590, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the ObamaCare Reconciliation bill. (H.R. 3590, Roll Call #165: Passed 219-212; R 0-178, D 219-34, 3/21/10), (H.R. 4872, Roll Call #167: Passed 220-211; R 0-178, D 220-33, 3/21/2010)

Katie McGinty: Obamacare “Is Something Democrats Have To Be Proud Of”…

“Single-payer, I believe, would squeeze a lot of the costs that we otherwise see in insurance company profits, et cetera, that are crippling the ability for us to achieve universal and affordable health care. Having said that, the Affordable Care Act is something that Democrats have to be proud of. Finally we have a shot at universal health care.” (Katie McGinty, Democratic Candidates for United States Senate from PA Debate, Pittsburgh, PA, 1/31/2016)

In Harrisburg, The Wolf-McGinty Tax Hikes Would Have Cost Pennsylvania Billions

The Wolf-McGinty tax hikes would have been greater than those proposed in the other 49 states…combined. “Not only was Pennsylvania a ‘driver’ of state tax increases, Gov. Wolf’s proposed tax increase is greater than the total for the rest of the country—which is a net tax decrease. In fact, Gov. Wolf’s proposed increase of $4.6 billion is 8 times the next highest (Connecticut).” (Nathan Benefield, “How Does Gov. Wolf’s Tax Plan Stand Up?,” Commonwealth Foundation, 6/18/2015)

Governor Tom Wolf’s proposal removes the exemption from services such as child care, nursing home care, college textbooks, and higher education mean plans and fees other than tuition. (Ed Mahon, “Gov. Tom Wolf’s sales tax expansion would cover child care, nursing homes and more,” York Daily Record, 3/18/2015)

The Wolf-McGinty Budget Proposal Would Have Increased Taxes On All Pennsylvania Families. “But a new report by the Legislature’s nonpartisan Independent Fiscal Office casts a pall over Wolf’s claims. The IFO report, issued Thursday, shows taxes would rise across all income brackets, with those earning more paying more.” (Steve Esack, “Taxes would rise across all income levels under Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget, report says,” The Allentown Morning Call, 4/15/2015)
