HARRISBURG – Nearly 757,000 more Republicans and 683,000 fewer Democrats voted in the last Tuesday’s election compared to the 2008 Primary, according to the latest numbers from the Pennsylvania Department of State.
The drastic shift in voter turnout follows news of historic gains in voter registration for the Grand Old Party in the Keystone State. Since Election Day 2015, 145,700 Pennsylvanians have registered as Republicans, including 61,543 Democrat party-switchers.
“Enthusiasm in the Keystone State is clearly on the side of the Republican Party,” Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason said. “Pennsylvanians are clearly tired of paying for the failures of the Obama-Clinton agenda, so it’s not surprising they’re ditching Hillary Clinton in droves.
“Pennsylvania Republicans have a terrific slate of candidates, including Senator Pat Toomey, Attorney General candidate John Rafferty, Auditor General candidate John Brown, Treasurer candidate Otto Voit and our wonderful Congressional, State Senate and State House nominees. From our historic voter registration numbers to our massive gains in turnout during our Primary Election, Pennsylvania Republicans are surging as we head into the General Election.”
