As published in The Washington Free Beacon, Freshman Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan this week told her constituents during a town hall meeting that negotiating with President Donald Trump over border security is “like negotiating with a terrorist.”
Here is a full transcript:
“I’d like to see something where we take that $5 billion and use it for actual things that would actually secure the border as opposed to a visually pleasing idea for us. I am willing to compromise, but I am not sure I’m willing to throw $5 billion away—because it feels a little bit like negotiating with a terrorist.”
These sort of remarks from Congresswoman Houlahan are quite different than the ones made by candidate Houlahan, seeking to moderate herself in front of Chester County voters.
According to a May 7, 2018, article in WHYY:
Houlahan said the district is full of moderate voters who care less about party and more about getting things done.
“We’re sort of purple people in terms of our sensibilities,” she said. “We’re pragmatic, problem solving people. We care about business and our community … but we also care about people.”
Apparently, for Congresswoman Houlahan, working to be pragmatic and solve problems stops with working with the President and Congressional Republicans to secure our southern border.
In response, Republican Party of Pennsylvania Communications Director Jason Gottesman, made the following statement:
“Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan sold the voters of Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District a bill of goods with her pre-election overtures toward working across the aisle toward pragmatic solutions.
“Congresswoman Houlahan should apologize for her disgusting remarks equating the President with terrorists. These kind of out-of-bounds comments show she has joined with Washington liberals who would rather keep the government shut down than work with President Trump on securing our borders.”
