HARRISBURG – Former Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Bill Scranton announced his endorsement of Supreme Court candidate Judge Joan Orie Melvin in advance of Tuesday’s election.
In a letter written to Judge Joan Orie Melvin, Former Lt. Governor Bill Scranton writes, “As a former Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, I understand the importance of electing qualified judges to our state Supreme Court who share our values and will uphold the law as it is written. That’s why I’m proud to extend my support to the most talented and experienced candidate in this year’s critically important Supreme Court race, Judge Joan Orie Melvin.
“After the horrific “Kids for Cash” judicial scandal that took place in Luzerne County, voters should be even more concerned about electing qualified and ethical judges who share a strong Pennsylvania values. After examining the record and qualifications of Judge Joan Orie Melvin, I am confident that Pennsylvanians will have a chance to vote for a candidate who will be the champion of reform that our judicial branch most desperately needs.
“On Tuesday, November 3rd, I will be urging Pennsylvanians to join me in casting their ballots for a strong and qualified candidate whose dedication to law is only outweighed by her passion for serving the people of this Commonwealth, Supreme Court candidate Judge Joan Orie Melvin.”
Lt. Governor Scranton’s announcement comes just days after four of Pennsylvania’s largest newspapers, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Patriot News and the Lancaster New Era, announced their strong support for Judge Joan Orie Melvin.
Judge Joan Orie Melvin said, “I am honored to have the support of Lt. Governor Bill Scranton, someone I have always respected and admired. Having the support of great leaders like Bill Scranton means a great deal to my campaign and is a sure sign that Pennsylvanians are embracing the message of judicial reform I have been spreading across our Commonwealth.”
