Templeton Smith, Jr.
Temp Smith is an attorney and shareholder with the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania law firm of Thomson, Rhodes & Cowie, P.C. He has a breadth of experience in appellate law and litigation. His practice in these areas has included disputes involving medical malpractice, products liability, commercial contracts, real property disputes, employment, zoning and land use, and property taxation. He also counsels hospitals and physicians on contracts and compliance with Medicare anti-fraud regulations. His roster of clients over the past 31+ years has included numerous individuals and small businesses, nonprofits, schools, churches, and large corporations.
Over the past 31+ years, Temp has handled more than 85 appeals in the Superior, Supreme and Commonwealth Courts of Pennsylvania on a wide variety of issues. He has been rated “Recommended” for appellate court service by the Pennsylvania Bar Association and “Highly Recommended” for such service by the Allegheny County Bar Association. The Martindale-Hubbel Legal Directory rates his as A-V, its highest rating.
Prior to joining Thomson, Rhodes & Cowie, P.C., in 1991, Temp practiced for 14 years with the Pittsburgh law firm of Rose, Schmidt, Hasley and DiSalle, spending the last 8 of those years as a partner in that firm’s litigation department.
A graduate of Washington & Lee University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Temp maintains an active practice before all of Pennsylvania’s appellate level courts as well as the Federal Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Temp is also active in the community. He is an elder in the Southminster Presbyterian Church, serves on the Board of the Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservency and as pro bono Solicitor for the Dormont Public Library. He has also served on the Boards of Outreach Teen and Family Services, Housing Ministries, Inc. and Animal Friends as well as Clerk of Session member of two pastor nominating committees and a member of the Board of Trustees of Southminster Church.
Temp is a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh. He and Lea (Anderson, Esquire) his wife of 28 years, live in Mt. Lebanon and have two children, Temp, III (“Chip”) a first-year medical student at West Virginia University and Suzanne, a sophomore at Denison University.
