In Case You Missed It: AP: Pa. unemployment rate rises, gap between U.S. figure widens

“As Governor Wolf tries to tout his attempts at job creation, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate continues to rise, up to 5.7%, almost a full percent higher than this time last year.  As Governor Wolf and Katie McGinty continue to push for higher taxes, and more government regulation, job creators continue to be worried about their ability to continue to do business in the Commonwealth and in America.” – PA GOP Deputy Communications Director Paul Engelkemier

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate rose again last month, and now lags the national unemployment rate by the widest gap in more than three decades.

The state Department of Labor and Industry says the commonwealth’s jobless rate rose to 5.7 percent in August.

That’s the fifth monthly increase in the last six months.

The national rate was 4.9 percent in August.

Pennsylvania’s rate hasn’t lagged the national rate by a bigger gap since 1981.

Meanwhile, a survey of employers found that seasonally adjusted non-farm payrolls slid by about 900 jobs in August, remaining below 5.9 million and March’s record high.

The civilian labor force shrank by 7,000 after hitting a record high above 6.54 million in May.

Employment dropped by 10,000 while unemployment grew by 3,000.
