Harrisburg, Pa.–On Saturday, officials from the Republican Party of Pennsylvania oversaw the selection of Clint Owlett as the Republican candidate for the 68th Pennsylvania House District Special Election. The election will fill Representative Matt Baker’s seat, who has accepted a presidential appointment to become the Regional Director of the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs at the Office of the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
“It was an honor for us to oversee this historic event, a part of the first ever special election to be held in Pennsylvania’s 68th house district. Owlett was selected through a democratic process involving representatives from each county touching the district, and he spurs enthusiasm from constituents–bringing in 800 signatures in just 6 days. He also has a good handle on the issues that are most important to area residents including the opioid crisis, business development in the region and issues of importance to the area’s farmers,” said Val DiGiorgio, Chairman, Republican Party of Pennsylvania.
The conferees who voted for Owlett over two other candidates were nominated to attend the meeting by the Republican Party leadership in the three counties that touch the district including, Tioga, Bradford, and Potter. Before voting, they were given a chance to listen to each of the candidates speak briefly, as well as ask them questions.
