PRESS RELEASE: Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman Val DiGiorgio, Republican U.S. Senate Nominee Congressman Lou Barletta praise nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court of the United States, urge speedy confirmation

Tuesday morning, Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman Val DiGiorgio and Republican U.S. Senate nominee Congressman Lou Barletta praised President Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States and urged the Senate to quickly act on the confirmation.

Judge Kavanaugh is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School. He has clerked for U.S. appellate court judges and also clerked for Justice Anthony Kennedy. Judge Kavanaugh also served in the Solicitor General’s Office during the Presidency of George H. W. Bush.

Currently, Judge Kavanaugh serves on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

“Judge Kavanaugh is a principled jurist with the breadth of experience, judicial temperament, and respect for the Constitution worthy of this momentous choice,” Chairman DiGiorgio said.

“While on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit Judge Kavanaugh has been a part of important opinions on religious liberty, the role of regulations in our economy, and respect for law enforcement. There he has shown he possesses the prudent Constitutional interpretation needed for the vastly important issues facing this country.”

Congressman Barletta also praised the President’s nomination.

“Judge Kavanaugh has a reputation as one of the most revered legal minds in America. His record shows respect for the Constitution and the rule of law,” he said.

“President Trump’s process for selecting Judge Kavanaugh has been the most transparent in history and the American people should expect the same thing from the Senate.”

Given Judge Kavanaugh’s background, Chairman DiGiorgio and Congressman Barletta urged the U.S. Senate to quickly act on the confirmation, particularly pointing out Sen. Bob Casey said he would not support Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation even before he was announced as the nominee.

“During the lead-up to the announcement of Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination, Bob Casey displayed the kind of blatant, uncalled for obstruction he has become known for,” Chairman DiGiorgio said.

“Despite this, we believe Judge Kavanaugh’s profile and experience will find supporters from both sides of the aisle and I urge the Senate to advance his confirmation as expeditiously as possible.”

Congressman Barletta added, “Bob Casey is not interested in giving Judge Kavanaugh the fair process that Pennsylvanians expect. Casey opposed him before he was even the nominee.”
