In border security flippancy, Gov. Tom Wolf joins resistance-focused Pennsylvania Democrats

Gov. Tom Wolf has once again joined the resistance-focused Pennsylvania Democrats by flippantly flip-flopping his way through refusing to offer Pennsylvania National Guard troops to help with the humanitarian and security crisis at the southern border.

Last week, five Pennsylvania Republican congressmen requested the Governor offer National Guard troops to assist with the humanitarian and security crisis at the southern border.

In declining to offer Pennsylvania National Guard troops, Gov. Wolf has recently called the congressmen’s request as “a stunt” with his office arguing that it is mere “hyperbole.”

However, President Donald Trump, Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McLennan, and Obama-era DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson have all detailed the crisis at the border.

The Trump administration has noted additional manpower could help stem the tide of a border influx that has seen a record-setting number of arrests as illegal drugs like heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl continue to pour over the border.

Even worse, Gov. Wolf has been inconsistent in his rationale behind why he is refusing to address the border crisis. In June 2018, Gov. Wolf said that he would not comply with an administration request for Pennsylvania Guardsmen because he refuses to “further President Trump’s policy of separating young children from their parents.”

Currently, he is saying he is refusing to offer National Guardsmen to aid with the humanitarian and security crisis at the southern border because it is “storm season.” Meanwhile, Gov. Wolf is ignoring his past precedent of deploying the National Guard during hurricane season for relief efforts, apparently unconcerned of storm impact in Pennsylvania.

In response, Republican Party of Pennsylvania Communications Director Jason Gottesman, made the following statement:

“Gov. Tom Wolf’s continued flippancy regarding the humanitarian and security crisis at the southern border and his inconsistent rationale for his refusal to offer Pennsylvania National Guard troops to help protect American lives and stem the flow of drugs is shameful and dangerous.

“By refusing to offer to help with the humanitarian and security crisis at the southern border, Gov. Wolf has thrown himself in with Pennsylvania Democrats who are putting resistance before results and a Democrat congressional delegation leading the charge on impeachment and needless investigations.”
